
Coach Ed Coles has a long and storied history at Eastside High School. Coach Coles led the varsity team before turning the program over to Coach Koz. He led two teams to the state finals as head coach and led a number of athletes to individual state titles. Prior to coming to Eastside, he won two team state titles at St. Andrews High School near Charleston.
After turning the program over to Coach Koz, Coach Coles pioneered AAU wrestling in South Carolina and began the Eastside Youth Wrestling club where he coached countless athletes who went on to win high school state titles. His son Eddie was a four-time state champion while at Eastside and had over 200 career victories.
Coach Coles continues to assist with Eastside Youth Wrestling.
In 2009, Coach Coles was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. His induction was based on his Lifetime of Service to Wrestling.
Coach Coles is a graduate of Slippery Rock University and is married to Gee Coles. He has a daughter, Ellison, and a son Eddie.
